Never needing to have someone feed me

The Gastrostomy will provide a balloon-retained feeding tube (via a low-profile connector called a ‘MIC-KEY button’) through which nutritionally-balanced formula can be slowly and automatically fed to me by means of an electronic pump. The tube will pass through a stoma (basically, a hole through my skin) directly into my stomach. However, for as long as my swallowing reflex continues to work well, I will still be able to eat through my mouth as well as through the tube. So, I can still enjoy eating at home (with someone feeding me), or indeed be given a forkful of something delicious in a restaurant. But in principle, I won’t need anyone to feed me all day. Even better, if I want, I can feed while I’m asleep – how cool is that!
