The dynamics that keep progressively refining a Global Guild should operate at many levels. For a start, even just the core ‘Sat Nav for global crises’ function of a Global Guild should be designed to be automatically self-improving. For instance, an embryonic Global Guild will bring immediate benefits, but only to its founding-members. That makes is attractive for more new members to want to join, which in turn enhances the Global Guild’s ability to address global crises, which accelerates its responsiveness to such threats, which brings still-greater benefits to those that are members, which makes it more attractive to join, and so on.
Similarly, as detailed further in the subchapter on The seven rules of Global Guilds, feedback mechanisms must be built into all the Global Guild’s processes so that tactics, operating guidelines and even strategy and goals are continuously improved. At first glance that just seems like standard ‘continuous improvement’, which would suggest steady rather than accelerating refinement. However, it is important to realize that the processes within a Global Guild that are subject to such improvement must include the improvement processes themselves. In other words, Global Guilds – and even the details of their own strategies – must be designed to improve the very way that they improve their own designs. It is that feedback of the improvement-process onto itself that strongly reinforces Progressive Refinement.
